Brandão stands out for her photographic work of portraits and intimate/sensitive stories. For over 20 years, her autobiographical work explores narratives that address the personal journey of the artist, in figurative and experimental imaginaries, leading her to places of healing and inviting reflection and introspection.

In 2020, she was appointed Ambassador of the LEICA brand.

Graduated in Cinema from FAAP, São Paulo/Brazil, under the guidance of curator and researcher Rubens Fernandes Junior, and with a Master’s degree in Photography from EFTI, Madrid/Spain. The artist’s work is carried out in digital photography and film, in black and white medium format, inspired by the classic photography from pictorialism of Alfred Stieglitz to the surrealism of Man Ray.

Her work has been reviewed by international critique including Vogue, El Mundo and Art News. She has also been a contributor to Vogue, GQ, Elle and Glamour magazines.

Born in São Paulo/Brazil in 1982, Emilia Brandão Carneiro has been based in Europe since 2008, where she lives and works. Her recent solo exhibitions include: “Sentimental Journey,” at Galeria F&deO (2022) in Madrid, Spain; “El Tiempo de Cura,” at Leica Gallery (2020) in Madrid, Spain.
