HOME IS WHERE THE LIGHT IS – PROJECT

Photos and text by Emilia Brandão during Covid19′s confinement in Madrid/Spain. March/April 2020
BEGINNING

At the beginning I was afraid. The news, the economy, the numbers… Lives. When Spain announced the quarantine I was scared but as I’m a photographer my professional life never had a routine, and as I work from home, the quarantine challenge didn’t seem so difficult to face.
I was wrong.
The first few days were full of ups and downs. Me, 2 kids and my husband at home, no help, no school, indoors, stress… but it’s been over a week now that something clicked and I see this quarantine as the-forced-family-spiritual-retreat we needed. Like every time I get sick, I tend to think: what is my body trying to say to me? what is wrong? what do I need to stop to be able to understand?… Except this time, it’s stopping the world. So I ask you: What is it that the entire world needs to understand? I’m sure many of you have different answers to that question, but here, is what I’m learning from this experience.
That’s the only way I feel safe to help right now, from my home, sharing my vision and thoughts with you, to try and bring the positive aspects of this exceptional time. That’s what I have been focusing on for the past few days.
It’s being an intense transformational experience, to be able to value the things that really matter in my life, at this present moment, at home, with my family, under the Madrid sky.
